AFRICA SERVICE MEDAL


Date Instituted: 1943.

Campaign: Second World War 1939-45.

Description: The obverse of this medal depicts the map of Africa with the inscription 'AFRICAN SERVICE MEDAL AFRIKADIENS-MEDALJE'.  The reverse has a leaping springbok facing to the right and the suspender is the straight non-swivelling type with ornate claw.

Metal: Silver.

Size: 36mm.

Clasps: None authorised for this medal.

Ribbon:

Naming: Small impressed capital letters with the prefixes 'N' for Native Military Corps, 'C' for Cape Corps and 'M' for Malay Corps. White recipients had no prefix.

Comments: Awarded to Union service personnel who served a minimum of 30 days at home or abroad during the Second World War.
