Instituted: 1918.
Description: Aircraft propeller cross with wings between the arms. The
obverse depicts Hermes riding on the wings of a hawk holding a laurel
wreath. At the top of the upper arm is the royal crown while the
other three arms bear the royal cypher of the reigning monarch at
the time of issue. The suspender is straight and decorated with
wreaths.
Metal: Silver.
Size: 60mm high and 54mm wide.
Bars: Bars were authorised for subsequent awards.

un-named but the cross is now awarded with the recipient's name and the date engraved on the reverse.

Letters: AFC.
Comments: Awarded to officers and warrant officers of the RAF who
display acts of gallantry on non-operational missions or meritorious
service while flying. In 1993 this award was opened up to all ranks
replacing the Air Force Medal. |
