CORONATION MEDAL 1902


Date Instituted: 1902.

Description: The obverse bears the two crowned busts of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in their robes of state while the reverse has the crowned royal cypher with the date of the coronation below. The medal is unusual in that the rim is decorated with a wreath while the mount takes the form of a crown.

Metal: Silver or bronze.

Size: 42mm high and 30mm wide.

Clasps: None authorised for this medal.

Ribbon:

Naming: Issued un-named.

Comments: Some 3493 silver and 6054 bronze medals were awarded to mark the coronation of King Edward VII. Silver medal recipients included members of the Royal Family, foreign dignitaries, high officials of government, senior officials and service officers involved with the coronation celebrations. Bronze medals went to certain NCOs and other ranks of the Army and Royal Navy for participation in parades.
