DIAMOND JUBILEE (POLICE) MEDAL 1897


Date Instituted: 1897.

Description: The obverse of this medal bears the head of Queen Victoria and the legend 'VICTORIA REGINA'.  There are five reverses for this award with the inscriptions 'CITY OF LONDON POLICE'', 'METROPOLITAN POLICE' , 'POLICE AMBULANCE', 'ST JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE' or 'METROPOLITAN FIRE BRIGADE'. Within these inscriptions are a wreath encircling the words 'JUBILEE OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA' and the date '1897' below. The suspender is plain and attached to the medal via a claw mount.

Metal: Bronze.

Size: 36mm.

Clasps: None authorised for this medal.

Ribbon:

Naming: Engraved upright or sloping capital letters.

Comments: Awarded to members of the City of London Police, Metropolitan Police, Police Ambulance, St, John Ambulance Brigade and Metropolitan Fire Brigade who took part in celebrations and parades to mark 60 years of the reign of Queen Victoria.

Those who had already received the Golden Jubilee (Police) Medal 1887 were awarded the clasp '1897'.
