EFFICIENCY DECORATION

Date Instituted: 1930.

Description: Oval skeletal medal in the form of a wreath of oakleaves with the royal monogram in the centre of the reigning monarch and a large crown at the top. The ribbon is attached via a metal ring at the top of the crown. The ribbon is finished at the top with a brooch bar bearing the words 'TERRITORIAL' or 'T&AVR'.

Metal: Silver and silver-gilt.

Size: 54mm high and 37mm wide.

Bars: Bars were authorised in 1949 for each additional 6 years service.

Ribbon: Territorial Army 1930-1968 & 1982-1999.

Territorial & Army Voluntary Reserve 1969-1981.

  Honorable Artillery Comapny Issues.

Naming: Issued un-named.

Post-Nominal Letters: TD.

Comments: Awarded to officers of the Territorial Army for 20 years service. The qualification period was reduced to 12 years in 1949.

The Territorial Army was re-named the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve in 1969 with the wording on the top brooch altered to 'T&AVR' to reflect this. However the force reverted to its former name of the Territorial Army in 1982 and the top bar again bore the word 'TERRITORIAL'.

This decoration was replaced in 2000 by the Volunteer Reserves Service Medal.
