Date Instituted: 2004.

Campaign: EU Military Operations.

Description: The obverse of this medal is plain except for the 12 Stars of the European Union forming a circle around the edge of the medal. The reverse has the inscription 'PRO PACE UNUM'. The ribbon is attached via a metal loop similar to UN and NATO awards.

Metal: Silver coloured alloy.

Size: 36mm.

Clasps: 'EUPM', 'CONCORDIA', 'ARTEMIS', 'PROXMIA' and ALTHEA.

Ribbon: EUPM: EU Police Mission Medal - Bosnia 2003
     
  CONCORDIA: Macedonia 2003
     
  ARTEMIS: Democratic Republic of the Congo 2003

Naming: Issued un-named.

Comments: Five issues of this medal currently exist including the following:

EUPM

Awarded for 30 days service with the European Union Police Mission in Bosnia. This mission commenced on 1st January 2003 and had a mandate to run until 31st December 2005.

Concordia

Awarded for 30 days service with the European Union Military Operation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. This mission commenced on 31 March 2003 and terminated on 15th December 2003.

Artemis

Awarded for 30 days service with the European Union Military Operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This mission commenced on 12th June 2003 and terminated on 1st September 2003.

Proxmia

Awarded for 30 days service with the European Union Police Mission in the Former Yugoslavia. This mission commenced on 15th December 2003 and had a mandate to run until 15th December 2004.

Althea

Awarded for service with the European Union Force (EUFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina from the 2nd December 2004.

Personnel qualifying for subesquent awards of these medals wear a silver numeral on the ribbon to denote successive awards.
