Description: The obverse bears the head of the reigning monarch of
which there are six different effigies: 1) George V coinage head
1918-30, 2) George V crowned and robed bust 1931-36, 3) George VI
Ind Imp 1937-49, 4) George VI Fid Def 1949-52, 5) Elizabeth II Br
Omn 1952-56 and 6) Elizabeth II Dei Gratia 1955-62. The reverse
depicts the standing figure of Victory bestowing palms upon a winged
sword and holding a trident. The suspender is ornate and is either
fixed or swivelling.

Naming: Impressed
capital letters.
Comments: Awarded to Army and RAF personnel for minor campaigns for
which a separate medal is not struck. This medal did not cover minor
campaigns in India or Africa which had their own general service
medals.
This
medal was discontinued in 1962 and replaced by the Campaign
Service Medal in 1964.
