GOLDEN JUBILEE (POLICE) MEDAL 1887


Date Instituted: 1887.

Description: The obverse of this medal bears the head of Queen Victoria and the legend 'VICTORIA REGINA'.  There are two reverses for this award with the inscriptions 'CITY OF LONDON POLICE' or 'METROPOLITAN POLICE' surrounding a wreath within which are the words 'JUBILEE OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN VICTORIA' and the date '1887' below. The suspender is plain and attached to the medal via a claw mount.

Metal: Bronze.

Size: 36mm.

Clasps: '1897'.

Ribbon:

Naming: Engraved upright or sloping capital letters..

Comments: Awarded to members of the City of London or Metropolitan Police who took part in the celebrations and parades to mark 50 years of the reign of Queen Victoria.

The 1897 clasp was awarded to those who took part in the diamond jubilee celebrations some 10 years later who had aready been awarded this medal.
