crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II and the legend ‘ELIZABETH II
DEI GRATIA REGINA FID.DEF’. The reverse has the combined operations
emblem with the words ‘THE GULF MEDAL’ above and the dates ‘1990-91’
below.

Naming: Impressed
capital letters.
Comments: Awarded to personnel who completed 30 days continuous service
in the Middle East and Cyprus between 2nd August 1990 and 7th March
1991 or 7 days between 16th January and 28th February 1991.
Those who served with the Kuwaiti Liaison Team on 2nd August when
the Iraqi invasion forces entered the country also received this
medal.
A
total of just over 45,000 of these medals were awarded with or without
a clasp. Some 1,500 civilians also received the medal for
certain services.
The
clasp '2 AUG 1990' (awarded to those in the Kuwaiti Liaison Team)
is rare with only a very small number being awarded. |
