Date Instituted: Between 1948 and 1983.

Campaign: To mark the granting of independence of British colonies between 1947 and 1983.

Description: Usually a symbolic motif to the country being granted independence with the date.

Metal: Silver or bronze.

Size: 32mm to 38mm.

Clasps: None authorised for these medals.
