Description: The obverse of this medal bears the head of the reigning
monarch while the reverse depicts the fortress of Jamrud at the
Khyber Pass with the word 'INDIA' within a wreath below. The swivelling
suspender is of the ornate scroll type.
Metal: Silver and bronze.
Size: 36mm.

Comments: As with previous India general service medals this medal
was awarded for minor campaigns in and around the Indian sub-continent.
This medal was struck at both the Royal Mint and the Calcutta Mint
with the latter having a plain (rather than ornate) claw mount.
Bronze versions of this medal were awarded to native bearers. |
