KING'S BADGE FOR WAR SERVICE

Date Instituted: 1945.

Campaign: Second World War 1939-45.

Description: Round buttonhole badge bearing the GRI royal cypher surmounted by a crown with the inscription 'FOR LOYAL SERVICE'.

Metal: Silver.

Size: 26mm.

Naming: Issued un-named.

Comments: Not strictly speaking a medal but nonetheless it was worn by recipients in a similar manner. It was awarded to service personnel who were invalided out of the armed forces before they could qualify for any of the medals issued for the Second World War. A similar badge had appeared in the form of the Silver War Badge during the First World War.
