KUWAITI LIBERATION MEDAL


Date Instituted: 1991.

Campaign: Gulf War 1990-91.

Description: Different versions of this medal exist with different types of Kuwaiti state emblem on the obverse for the 5 grades of the award. The suspender bar is straight but again varies depending on the grade.

Metal: Various.

Size: Various.

Clasps: None authorised for this medal.

Ribbon:

Naming: Issued un-named.

Comments: The various grades were awarded according to rank:

  • Excellent Grade - Most senior allied personnel;
  • 1st Grade - Major Generals and Brigadiers;
  • 2nd Grade - Colonels and Majors;
  • 3rd Grade - Captains and Lieutenants;
  • 4th Grade - NCOs and enlisted men.

The above list uses army ranks but the equivalent ranks of the other services also apply.

As with the Saudi Arabian Liberation of Kuwait Medal British service men and women are not permitted to wear this award in uniform despite other allied countries being authorised to do so by their respective governments.
