NATAL MEDAL


Date Instituted: 1907.

Campaign: Zulu Rebellion 1906.

Description: The obverse of this medal bears the head of King Edward VII and the legend 'EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR' while the reverse has a standing female figure representing Natal holding the sword of justice in her right hand and a palm branch in her left with the word 'NATAL' in the exergue below. The swivelling suspender is plain and straight.

Metal: Silver.

Size: 36mm.

Clasps: '1906'.

Ribbon:

Naming: Impressed capital letters.

Comments: Awarded by the Natal government to local units involved in the suppression of the Zulu Rebellion in 1906. The medal is encountered with or without the '1906' clasp and over 10,000 were issued.
