Comments: This medal was originally called the Army Best Shot Medal and was struck in bronze which was later changed to silver in 1872. In 1882 the medal was discontinued but was later revived in 1923 when it became known as the King's Medal for Champion Shot of the Army. With the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 its name was changed to the Queen's Medal.
As with the Queen's Champion Shot Medals for the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force this medal is awarded annually to the champion of the Army markmanship contest. A second medal is also awarded each year for the champion shot of the Territorial Army.
