QUEEN'S CHAMPION SHOT MEDAL (ROYAL NAVY & ROYAL MARINES)


Date Instituted: 1953.

Description: The obverse of this medal bears the head of Queen Elizabeth II while the reverse has the nude figure of Neptune holding thunderbolts in his hands with the inscription 'VICTORIA CURAM AMAT'. Behind him is the bow of a trireme and the heads of three horses while a trident can be seen beneath Neptune's left arm. The ribbon is attached via a straight type suspender.

Metal: Silver.

Size: 36mm.

Bars: This medal is awarded with a bar bearing the year of the award.

Ribbon:

Naming: Engraved capital letters.

Comments: Awarded annually to the champion of the Royal Navy markmanship contest.
