Instituted: 1918.
Description: The obverse of this medal bears the effigy of the reigning
monarch while the reverse has the inscription 'FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE'
within a wreath surmounted by a crown. The suspender is of the
scroll type with an ornate claw mount.
Metal: Silver.
Size: 36mm.
Bars: Authorised for subsequent awards.

Naming: Impressed
in large serif capital letters for First World War issues but
in thin block capitals for later issues.
Comments: Awarded for valuable services in the field and not those
who flew. This medal was replaced by the the British Empire Medal
in 1928 but revived in 1977 and is now awarded as per other MSMs. |
