VICTORIA CROSS (CANADA)

Date Instituted: 1993.

Description: Identical to the British Victoria Cross but with the inscription 'PRO VALORE' rather than 'FOR VALOUR'. The cross is also slightly larger than its British counterpart.

Metal: Bronze.

Size: 38mm.

Bars: Bars are authorised for subsequent awards.

Ribbon:

Naming: Name of recipient is engraved on the reverse of the suspender bar while the date of the action for which it is awarded appears on the reverse of the cross itself.

Post-Nominal Letters: VC.

Comments: This cross is awarded along similar guidelines as for the British Victoria cross. Apart from being very slightly larger than the original VC it has only one important difference being the Latin inscription 'PRO VALORE'. This change is due to Canada's 2 official languages of English and French with the Latin not favouring either over the other.
